The month of Ramadan is approaching; apart from their increased worship, prayer, and fast from food and drink, Muslims are able to live in solidarity with the suffering of impoverished and hungry people around the world. Ramadan also serves to reminds Muslims of the importance of charity (Zakat).

“Verily, those who give charity, men and women, and lend Allah a goodly loan, it shall be increased manifold, and theirs shall be an honorable good reward.”
    —Holy Qur’an, surah 57, ayah 18

This year, the Syrian Orphans Organization hopes that Muslims all around the world dedicate their Zakat to the children left behind in Syria’s tragedy. Charity is an obligation on every Muslim, and it is especially blessed in the month of Ramadan, and even more so when offered to beloved orphans.

The Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) said, “I and the person who looks after an orphan will be in paradise together like this,” reports Al-Bukhari, describing the motion as raising his forefinger and middle finger together.
